The two studies were co-written by Eden King of Mason, Michelle Hebl of Rice and their collaborators and were published in the Journal of Applied Psychology. The group tried to identify the different interpersonal reactions pregnant women get from the people and institutions around them, particularly when finding employment.

The Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 protects pregnant women against formal discrimination in companies with 15 or more employees. But then, it seems that the law doesn’t prove much of a help as many pregnant women still get discriminated by employers, albeit indirectly in most cases.
